How Much Does a Marriage Celebrant Cost in Sydney?

If you’re planning a wedding in Sydney, you’ll find considerable variation in what marriage celebrants charge. A straightforward legals-only ceremony may cost several hundred dollars, while a fully personalised ceremony will generally cost more because it involves considerably more consultation, preparation and writing.

At Celebrant, Actually, a fully personalised Sydney wedding ceremony is $1,075, while a simple legals-only marriage ceremony is $575.

The important question isn’t simply, “How much does a celebrant cost?” It’s what you’re receiving for that fee—and whether the service feels right for you.

What does a marriage celebrant’s fee cover?

A celebrant’s work begins well before you see them standing at the front of your ceremony.

Depending on the service you choose, the fee may cover:

  • An initial meeting to make sure you’re a good fit

  • Preparation and management of the legal documents

  • Meetings and correspondence throughout the planning process

  • Guidance on the structure and tone of your ceremony

  • Help with writing or refining your vows

  • Researching and writing a personalised ceremony

  • Liaising with your venue and other suppliers

  • Use of a professional PA system

  • Travel to and from the ceremony

  • Conducting the ceremony itself

  • Registering the marriage after the wedding

Although the ceremony may last only 20 or 30 minutes, creating and delivering it well requires preparation, care and considerably more time behind the scenes.

Why do celebrant prices vary?

No two ceremonies—or celebrant services—are exactly alike. Several factors can influence the fee you’re quoted.

The kind of ceremony you want

A brief legals-only ceremony involves a different level of preparation from a fully personalised wedding ceremony incorporating your story, carefully written wording, personal vows and contributions from family or friends.

Neither choice is inherently better. It simply depends on what you want your ceremony to be.

The level of personalisation

A ceremony written specifically for you requires time: getting to know you, identifying the stories that matter and finding language that sounds genuine rather than generic.

If you want your ceremony to feel distinctly like the two of you, this is one of the most valuable parts of the service.

Meetings and support

Some services include several meetings, ongoing guidance and help shaping the ceremony from beginning to end. Others are intentionally simpler and involve less consultation.

When comparing fees, consider how much support you want during the planning process—not only what happens on the wedding day.

Travel and rehearsals

Some celebrants include travel within a particular area and charge additionally beyond it. Rehearsals may also be included, optional or charged separately.

It’s worth checking this before booking, particularly if your ceremony is outside metropolitan Sydney.

Date and ceremony requirements

Public holidays, unusual hours, distant locations and ceremonies involving additional coordination can sometimes affect the final fee. Any possible additional costs should be explained clearly before you book.

What does each ceremony option include?

I offer two clear options.

A fully personalised wedding ceremony — $1,075

This is for couples who want a ceremony created specifically for them.

It covers everything you’ll ordinarily need to plan, prepare and deliver your ceremony, together with the required legal work. Your ceremony will be thoughtfully written around you and delivered with warmth, confidence and a lightness of touch.

My approach is polished and personal, without becoming showy. The focus remains where it belongs: on the two of you and the people sharing the moment with you.

Rehearsals and additional travel can be arranged separately, with any additional costs agreed before you book.

A legals-only marriage ceremony — $575

This is for couples who want to become legally married through a simple, straightforward ceremony without a fully written personal story.

It includes the required legal wording, preparation and management of the marriage documents, solemnisation of the marriage and registration following the ceremony.

Simple doesn’t mean impersonal. The occasion can still feel warm, relaxed and meaningful while keeping the format concise.

What should you compare when considering celebrant fees?

A quoted price only becomes meaningful when you understand what is included.

Before booking, consider:

  • Is the ceremony personalised or based on a standard format?

  • How many meetings are included?

  • Will the celebrant help with vows and ceremony structure?

  • Is a PA system provided?

  • Is ordinary travel included?

  • Are rehearsals included or charged separately?

  • Who prepares and lodges the legal documents?

  • Could any other charges apply?

  • How much contact and support will you receive?

Clear answers allow you to compare the actual services rather than simply choosing between two numbers.

Choosing the right Sydney marriage celebrant

Your ceremony sets the emotional tone for the celebration that follows. It can be simple or elaborate, intimate or joyful, deeply moving or gently humorous—but it should feel recognisably yours.

Choose someone whose manner puts you at ease, whose words feel authentic and whose presence supports the moment without overwhelming it.

If that sounds like the kind of ceremony you’re looking for, I’d be delighted to hear what you have in mind.

You can compare my full ceremony and legal-only options on the Ceremonies page.
